The essence of Grace, passing thoughts in losing a wonderful being on this Earth

"Merry Christmas to family, friends and all others my life has touched directly and indirectly. 2017 is my year to send out the doves after my storms in life and let all else go with new beginnings. If you are reading this, consider the dove sent. Happy Holidays and new experiences to come"

My mantra and message for 2017. In the biblical parable of Noah, a dove was sent out after the floods to bring back a sign of hope and returned with the leaf of an olive branch signifying though unseen, land and green earth still existed in the future. In Native American beliefs the saying "it is a good day to die, signifies regardless of what happens today, my soul is right with the great spirit and I am a warrior without fear of death. Across this world, many cultures and beliefs have ways of expressing all is right with the past and I do not fear the future. Possibly why the Fools card in Tarot is one of my favorites implying even if the journey is unknown, I am at peace with what is found.

The end of November 2016, brought the death of a lady I truly did treasure seeing each day in my world.  Ninety-three years old with memory problems, her future as she knew it was very uncertain and the point arrived where decisions were to be made in regard of moving her from the home, to a care facility which if she had been fully aware of, she would not have chosen. My prayers for the weeks prior were for a memory to be restored to being her most optimal self again for whatever time period that might bring. Being found on a Friday evening by family members in her home after falling and breaking her hip, the short series of days following were as amazing as she had always been. Saturday brought a hip surgery, Sunday waking up from the surgery, Monday suffering a heart attack and being placed on life support, with Tuesday being a removal  from life support with the last week of her life in this world instead of just waiting for death, this beautiful soul embraced a new journey. On the last day I saw her before leaving she took my hands and said "I love you, but I am going to the sky now and will not see you again here". Although suffering from memory problems, all memories for the last days of her life were restored as she would speak to those from her homeland of Austria and Germany will full knowledge and touch the side of her head as the sign of "I  remember!". Having lived a life across a broad spectrum of experiences from Hitler, to traveling every corner of this planet, Grace was her essence and being. Attending her memorial service and taking time to remember as viewing her small wooden box of ashes with a name plate, it was amazing in thinking how few ashes had once been such a huge soul and bestowed in life with the sense of adventurer and humble love and grace she was. What she could not remember, others never forgot. Or will.

Life without thinking was a continual sending of the doves without expectation and yet a wondrous amazement of the return without  anticipations. Living in the woods, feeding the birds was a large part of her life, wondering if they were hungry and unfazed  of what the woods itself could provide. Some might have thought her to be a fool in not knowing, yet the birds responded and brought back the joy in companionship which was really sent out in the effort. Do not be to quick to judge who you might believe to be the fool, just possibly they are right with the past knowledge and well aware the present needs to be tended  as well in creating  a future only yet to be imagined.

Seeing life through natures eyes, which I observed for so long from this lady, weather and the light of the sky told her everything needed to be known for the day, all else which came of a day was bonus. Learning to observe the bonus of each day made myself a better person in the process. Where did you find bonus today without expectation? Often we are so caught up in the anticipation of bonus specified and judged, bonus slides into and out of a day unrecognized. Where prayers become specific in need or want, bonus comes from being thankful and grateful for each day as experienced. A fool will never be disappointed  or being thankful ever reciprocated. I have observed true Grace in many forms and experience, observing Grace with her was a bonus and lessons unforgotten. She picked a good day to die on November 28, fly high dove and you are missed.

I took this video of her in the library of her home a day prior to breaking her hip. She loved her Austrian music and homeland.
