"Everything has a reason"

"Everything has a reason" was a phrase my client I'll call Grace had to share today. At 91 years old, she has been assigned a label of dementia included in her description. I do see times when she repeats stories from her life where she has either found objections or memories which she holds the dearest, if this is a label for dementia then each of us share the same label at times in life.

On the refrigerator in her home, magnets hang as mementos in her life of destinations traveled too at one time or another, from Paris to Vegas she has been there.Today as we looked over the moments of her life symbolized in magnets she just quietly stated "everything for a reason". Her way of looking at life in good times or less than good in memory, all is recognized for a reason.

Many times she has stated after traveling the world and now living alone she is nothing. My only response to her in these moments is "if you are nothing, then you are everything". A powerful, yet simple statement I was given from spirit years ago which I equated with the color black which I love to wear. Many look at the color as being without color rather than being of all colors.

Today, I had to inform her in the near future another person will be coming each morning to be with her as I will shift the space of my own life. I watched as her eyes became glassy thinking about the change coming. Every morning as I pull up to her house she will either come out or open the door for entry. We sit down as talk as she eats the breakfast I bring to ensure her day has started with nutrition. We play "beauty shop" and her hair is transformed from looking like a sleep state to being prepared for the day. Little things, though each done for a reason of her knowing her day has started and she is prepared for however her day takes form.

At times, we travel down the road out of the woods to a hometown cafe, she is not really interested in going to eat, she just loves to observe the people in the cafe who are primarily retirement age as they gather with friends and family to start the day for many reasons. She commented on one trip about a young man 30ish eating alone and starting his day. She was saddened for him eating alone, the man himself was probably perfectly fine at the time in making the choice to eat in the cafe before work. To her, she felt it as a reminder of her own life and the times of eating alone. She loves conversation so and in the times when she eats without anyone outside her own thoughts, she feels for others doing the same for many reasons.

At this time in her life, she looks at life in reflection rather than future events being the common. On the days when she is aware showing in her driveway means a trip outside of the house, she meets me dressed up with her makeup and ready to go, for the reason of just a small amount of traveling has returned to her life for the day, purse in hand ready to go from the outset for any reason. At this time, she has already been up since before dawn setting out feed for the birds, squirrels and one Ferrel cat which she watches over and feeds each day if for no other reason than knowing each will not go hungry and speaks of the creatures in Austria and the mountains which were fed daily because everything has a reason.

We go about our daily lives at times almost unconsciously in this world as we wake, work, eat and move without much forethought that each movement is without reflecting everything has a reason. She is a joy in my life each day and I will continue to still return to visit her as often as God and fate allows knowing the fulfillment she has brought to me has truly been the nothing/everything in the Grace of everything for a reason.
