For the love of Nepal
For the love of Nepal
Today, I sat with a young co-worker, who along with her husband almost four years ago left Nepal behind and two young children with her parents to forge out a life in the United States. They have done very well in creating the life of a vision still taking form. She was raised with a private education that taught her western ways and languages very well understood, to integrate in a new land.
Like so many of us everyday, we have good days and bad, today she felt her day was less than perfect at work and was feeling down. After sitting for a few minutes, I asked her about her country and quickly her dark eyes lit up with a light showing through the very dark eyes she has as if a candle had been lit. Speaking of her country, Hindu faith, and telling the stories of her beliefs, - though not just expressing them rather her tone turned into conversation you only feel when someone is truly in love. In love, with a land and faith with a whimsical way of speaking and excitement in every word.
Time seemed to evaporate listening to her speak of the stories of Hindu and Nepal with great clarity and detail woven into a language of love. Speaking of the temples and tables of New Delhi as if a friend which has a piece of her heart. Someone once told me, that in India even, the farmer in the field was spiritual, – and today I really understood the statement. She spoke from the soul of who she was, not in a tone used to convince me- only allowing the empathy to be shared. Not spoken with any need for my acceptance, only the opportunity to witness. She is in love with an innermost part of herself and only chooses to express in love.
Throughout my life I have heard many express their religious beliefs with a need to convince myself to understand, or is it we feel a need to convince to be validated? I have believed for a very long time that others can accept or reject me, their choice but I choose not to absorb what is not mine to own. Today this person only spoke from a space in sharing, and I was sure she owned herself without hesitation, comfortably settled into her heart and being in love with her faith. If each in our world could truly move into this space of knowing and ownership, walls would disappear created in separation. Her country is not free of all bigotry, problems or without sacrifice, though that part of her does not exist when she speaks. All anger, she had for the day could not reside with her in the moment when she was just remembering who she was.
My grandson wrote an essay this past week on how technology, has changed the communication in our world with great clarity, though interacting from cyber is a first step in meeting and understanding people of our world. There are many right where you are now, in your physical world from nations across this planet, how often have you chosen to listen to them for just a little while as they speak of a place foreign to us, yet very much home and love to them. Communicating and just allowing their joy to become a part of which you are, not being about the teacher or educating; only feeling the voice. This is when one with all takes form through feeling another with words unsaid. Allowing, empathy to be the conduit in exchange for new understanding and openings into the world of another person.
Take time this week to listen through the eyes and soul of another, the response given can change the world. Are you ready to listen to the speaker of an open heart? Life is about feeling and understanding that we are without judgment or separation and finding the place of being in love and ownership of our joy. Peace reigns there beyond all else, not beyond you – within you! We are the intended peace and allowed to be in love with the energy of our faith, regardless of the path and just knowing all paths/hearts lead to the same summit.
